TWO ARRESTED AFTER WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN NEWHAVEN

A driver was arrested after an elderly woman suffered life-changing injuries when she was in collision with a car in Newhaven yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the junction of Railway Road and Drove Road just after 3.00pm. An 86-year-old woman from Telscombe Cliffs suffered serious injuries to her left leg and wrist and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

The driver of the silver Vauxhall Corsa, a 24-year-old man from Peacehaven, was uninjured, but was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving without insurance, driving without due care and attention, driving other than in accordance with a licence and aggravated vehicle taking causing injury. He was later bailed until August 29.

A 21-year-old man from Peacehaven was also arrested on suspicion of permitting the driving of a motor vehicle without a licence or insurance and aggravated vehicle taking causing injury. He was also bailed until August 29.
