Seaford Police are warning youngsters and their parents of the dangers of 'tombstoning' after police responded to a number of complaints on Wednesday afternoon and evening about youngsters jumping off the large groyne at Splash Point.

About half-a-dozen youngsters aged 14-18 were repeatedly jumping off the groyne into the sea.

PC Stuart Hyde said: "This area is clearly signposted to prevent people from going beyond the barriers and that tombstoning is prohibited. We want to reinforce how dangerous this activity is. These signs are there for a reason. Though it may not appear very high, there are a great deal of submerged hazards around the groyne and there is a potential for very serious injury and even drowning.

"I would ask all parents to emphasise this to their children the next time they say they are going to play at the beach."
