Newhaven Port & Properties' programme of works to improve the facilities for Newhaven Fishermen continues with the opening of Fishing Stage 16 last Saturday.

Stage 16 fell into disrepair a number of years ago and was very nearly demolished, but the management team at the NPP saw the potential to bring it back to life. After going through a thorough tender process and assignment of budget funds, Haven Home Construction was contracted to carry out the refurbishment using a method unique to them, in order to keep the costs to a minimum, whilst still providing a quality structure.

Haven Home Construction Ltd. is a relatively recently formed Newhaven company which has proved capable of designing and undertaking works that are not your typical "run of the mill" projects. The company is committed to only employing local labour and using local suppliers of materials and was delighted to win the contract to work for NPP for the benefit of Newhaven Fishermen and the socio-economic benefit of the town as a whole

NPP was sufficiently impressed with the result that it contracted Haven Home Construction to refurbish Fishing Stage 13 using the same techniques as used on Stage 16. Work on Stage 13 will commence on or around the 1st of July.

The benefit of these improvement works is that the working and safety conditions are improved for the fishermen and a potential four new berths have been created.

It is hoped that further improvement works can be carried out to the remaining fishing stages in the near future.
