NEWHAVEN’S FIRST COMMUNITY GAMES AT THE FISH FESTIVAL

June 3 2013.

Sportsmaker Amanda Wilkins is organising Newhaven's first Community Games at the Fish Festival this coming Saturday, June the 8th. The Games will be located at the far end of Huggetts Green where the official flags and banners will be flying.

The event has the backing of Active Sussex and Newhaven Town Council who gave Amanda a grant to launch Make Sport Happen in Newhaven.

After working as a Gamesmaker at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Amanda went on to qualify as a Sportsmaker and was recently advised by Active Sussex that she has been awarded the Sussex nomination for the Shine a Light Community Games Award, and she will receive her award on July the 16th, as well as representing Sussex at the Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium on July the 27th.

At the Fish Festival the Community Games will take the form of an old-fashioned Sports Day for Adults and entry is free.

There will be the following races:

Egg and Spoon Race

Sack Race

Three-legged Race

Parents Race

There will also be a Space Hoppers Race for the children and the adults. Space hoppers have been kindly loaned by The Ark pub, West Quay, Newhaven. What do they use them for we wonder.......?

The races will be run in heats with the winners going through to finals held periodically throughout the day. There will be a break for the Childrens Parade.

Winners will receive T-shirts and medals kindly provided by Active Sussex.

This is a taster event for a bigger Community Games featuring more sports planned for August.
