DENTON COMMUNITY CHALLENGE - SUMMIT SPECIAL
May 23 2013.
Following the success of the 2012 Denton 'Jubi-Lympics' event, the organisers are continuing with a new Community Challenge for 2013 - ' The Summit Special'. This will be a joint celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Coronation and the first ascent of Everest. This will take place on Saturday June the 8th starting at 1.00pm on the main Denton field opposite the Tates garage site in Avis Road. It will take the form of a community sports day, with challenges and entertainment for all ages, largely provided by local sports and social clubs.
Expanding on the usual Church Fayre, the P.C.C. has combined with the local community to organise a fun event for the whole village, and for anyone else who would like to take part and have a good time. Money raised on the day will be shared by St. Leonard's Church and the James Daniels Memorial Fund.
St Leonard's is a beautiful, flint Church dating back to circa 1288. It has had an interesting history, and as well as serving the local community, it is a popular destination for ramblers and cyclists. Like many others, St Leonard's is in great need of money, so that it can continue to serve the community. For further infomation visit www.dentonparish.org
The James Daniels Memorial Fund was established in November 2005 following the loss of James at the age of just 19. The Fund Trustees raise money through a series of events throughout the year. Local schools and sports clubs are invited to apply for funds to aid the purchase of equipment and coaching aids to encourage the development of sporting activities for children and youths of Denton, Newhaven and the surrounding area.
As well as the sporting challenges there will be an arena with attractions ranging from marching bands to dog agility, and Zumba dancing to Tug-of-War. Side show attractions include rides on a model steam train, a beer tent, a prayer/meditation tent and of course cakes and raffles. The afternoon will conclude with a community barbeque.
