NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT LAUNCHED TO AID MOTORBOAT WITH ENGINE FAILURE

April 9 2013.

Volunteers from Newhaven's RNLI lifeboat station were launched on Monday 8th April 2013 at 17:32hrs following a report from one of four persons on board an 18ft motor vessel that had suffered engine failure off of Newhaven.

Newhaven's Severn Class lifeboat 'RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland' made its way to the vessel. The four persons on board had been at anchor whilst recreationally fishing and had discovered the mechanical failure when they planned to depart.

Contact was made with HM Coastguards through mobile telephone.

A tow line was quickly established and the vessel towed into Newhaven Marina.

Second Coxswain, Lee Blacknell said "We cannot stress enough the importance of being prepared when going to sea. Be it having a working VHF radio, or just ensuring that after this extended winter that your vessel is fully serviced and ready for your voyage."

The lifeboat was ready for service at 18:15hrs
