MARCH FOR SEAFORD HEALTH

April 8 2013.

Statement from Cllr. Sam Adeniji:

From 1st April local GPs through the Clinical Commission Group (CCG) are responsible for commissioning health services. In Seaford we have been campaigning for years for provision of more out-patients services locally in Seaford and for a minor injuries unit. Despite lengthy 'talks' and promises by the local NHS, there has been very little provision of outpatients facilities in Seaford and the few services that we had have been taken away from the Town This means that we, the people of Seaford, continue to travel to Brighton and Eastbourne for many of our basic outpatients' treatments.

We are therefore organising a 'March for Seaford Health' on Saturday 13th April at 11.00am. The March will start at the War Memorial in Seaford. The aim of the march is to draw the attention of the CCG to the need for improved outpatients' provision in Seaford

In Seaford, we have an ageing population. We have young people and families who now have to travel further for consultant led maternity and paediatrics due to the Eastbourne DGH being stripped consultant-led Maternity and Paediatrics.

To rub insult into injury Seaford Day Hospital has been closed and will soon be sold off. Physiotherapy services that were previously provided at the Day Hospital have been transferred out of town. Mental Health Services are no longer provided at Seaford Day Hospital and some patients have been transferred to Newhaven Downs.

Despite the campaign for improved health services in Seaford and for more outpatient services to be provided locally, we are having more services taken away from the Town and provided further way from Seaford. This clearly is unacceptable for Seaford a town with 25,000 people.

It is time we make our voices heard and draw the attention of the now operative CCG as to the strength of feeling in the Town for out-patients facilities to be provided in Seaford.

Our MP Norman Baker has agreed to join and lead the march; I am urging people to turn out for the March on Saturday April 13th at 11.00am as it is important that we show the strength of feeling in the town.

It's extremely important people attend this march so that we can have our voices heard and fight for the services that Seaford residents need and deserve.

Please come and support us, the voices of the people of Seaford must be heard.
