NEWHAVEN FORT OPENS FOR 2013 SEASON

February 20 2013.

Newhaven's historic Fort re-opens to the public on Friday the 1st of March and promises visitors a quality day out to remember. Once again the award-winning attraction has received a glowing assessment from the annual Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme (VAQAS), endorsed by Visit England, allowing the attraction to maintain its quality accreditation.

Open from 10:30am-6pm daily Newhaven Fort offers visitors the chance to enjoy interactive wartime displays and exhibits, fascinating architecture and breathtaking clifftop views of the Sussex coastline.

Throughout 2013 Newhaven Fort will host an extensive programme of popular events, from open-air theatre and live music, to military re-enactments and children's activities, during the school holidays.

The first event of the season is on Sunday the 10th of March when Newhaven Fort will present a set of short talks about inspiring women and the roles they played in times of conflict, in recognition of International Women's Day. Talks will cover the careers of nurses Edith Cavell, Nellie Spindler, Mairi Chisholm and Elsie Knocker, as well as the work of the women of the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) in World War Two.

Later in March there is the chance to join special guided tours and find the answers to those questions you've always wanted to ask about the Fort. Tours are on 16thand 23rd of March at 12.30 and 2.30 pm, and spaces can be booked in advance by calling Newhaven Fort on 01273 517622.
