NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT IN SEVEN SISTERS CALL-OUT

January 7 2013.

Volunteers from Newhaven's RNLI lifeboat station were launched on Sunday the 6thof  January at 16:10 to a report of three persons cut off by the tide under the Seven Sisters cliffs.

Coastguards were concerned that the reported persons could be in an area that is completely submerged by the incoming tide and breaking surf, and daylight was also fading at that time.

Newhaven's Severn Class lifeboat 'RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland' arrived on scene and launched its daughter Y boat. The lifeboat and Y boat conducted comprehensive searches from Cuckmere Haven through to Birling Gap assisted by local coastguard teams.

Once the lifeboat confirmed that no one was trapped by the tide, the lifeboat and coastguard teams were stood down at 17:25 and returned to stations.
