Some weeks ago, the government launched its 'so called' policy of making local policing more visible, more accountable and more accessible by holding elections for the role of Police and Crime Commissioner.
So, amid much fanfare - well, not really, as no one knew who the candidates were, or what they stood for, the election went ahead, for what is, when all is said and done, a very highly paid job.
Following a staggeringly low voter turnout, the Police and Crime Commissioners were duly elected. For us in Sussex, it is Katy Bourne.
Should you care to visit the Police and Crime Commissioner website at
www.sussex-pcc.gov.uk/ you will see many pages that tell you that it is: 'Your Voice That Counts', 'Tell Us What You Think' and 'Have Your Say'.
Well, I used the contact form on the website to send in some views on local policing. I first sent these views on the 27th of November 2012 and when nothing was heard, not even an acknowledgement, I repeated the message again on the 4th of December 2012.
To date, I have still heard nothing.
Remember, this is someone who has put themselves up for 'public office', got elected - albeit by a very small minority, is taking a huge salary as a result, and is asking for our views on local policing.
So something is not working somewhere! But then, I am sure we can all sleep safely in our beds knowing we have a Police and Crime Commissioner in charge.
