MAN CHARGED AFTER NEWHAVEN TAXI ROBBERY

October 29 2012.

A man has been charged with robbery after a taxi driver was robbed at knifepoint in Newhaven. Marcus Streeter, 20, unemployed, of no fixed address, is due to appear at Eastbourne Magistrates Court today, charged with robbery of £265 cash on 27 October.

He has also been charged with theft of a Vauxhall Cabrila and aggravated theft of a Saab Turbo, both in Newhaven between the 7th and 9th of October, and making off without paying for fuel in Peacehaven on the 9th of October.

The charges follow an incident in Western Road, Newhaven, just after 4.30am on Saturday the 27th of October, in which a taxi driver reported that he had been robbed at knifepoint by a fare he had just driven from Brighton. An immediate police search of the area resulted in an arrest nearby soon afterwards. The stolen cash was recovered and the taxi driver was not hurt.
