Seaford is to hold it's first open art exhibition at the Crypt gallery from 10th - 15th November. The local community is being encouraged to submit art work with the chance of winning a top prize of £100 and a chance to exhibit their work in the Crypt Art gallery.

Entry to the competition costs £5 for up to two works and is free for any junior artist under 16. There is a £100 cash prize for the winning adult entry and a special trophy for the junior prize winner.

This is Seaford's first open art exhibition and will showcase work by local artists. People who have never exhibited are particularly encouraged to enter the competition. Work will be hung by specialist volunteers from the Crypt Gallery committee. The beautiful medieval undercroft space below the main gallery will also be used to show work. There will be free entry for visitors to the final exhibition.

Paintings will be selected by three of the existing committee members; Nicky Auster, Keith Allfrey and Brian Millar. All three live in the Seaford area and have a background in the arts.

"We are really hoping to get a wide selection of entries to choose from. In my experience it is such a thrill to have work selected and shown," said Keith Allfrey.

" A lot of work will be available to buy, but the main purpose is to showcase the creative talent of people who live in and around the town," said Nicky Auster.

"I'm really looking forward to the event and encourage local residents to come along and have a look at the artwork. So many people say they have never been in the Crypt Gallery, which is a shame, as it is a real Seaford gem." said Brian Millar.

The launch takes place on Wednesday 19th September at 7.00pm in the Crypt Gallery in Church Street, Seaford.
There will be a special 'by invitation' preview evening on Friday 9 November at 7.00pm, where guests will have the first opportunity to view the paintings over wine and cheese.

The exhibition will be open from Saturday 10th November to Thursday 15th November from 10.00am - 4.00pm.
