MAIL REF - OVERVIEW OF ARROWCROFT ATTENDANCE AT NEWHAVEN COUNCIL PLANNING MEETING

Updated - September 7 2012.

CLARIFIED MATTER
I understand the concern, but the Network Rail issue was simply whether the developer would commit to linking the junction signalling and the level crossing signalling, which was the idea all along. For some reason, Network Rail thought that Arrowcroft wasn't going to do this, and opposed the application at the original planning meeting.

I am told that now this has been clarified. Network Rail actually supports the Arrowcroft application. The planning committee, (in Arrowcroft's opinion), did not have access to all the relevant facts when they made their decision.

The sort of issues Mr Barnes is asking about would be the concern of the train operator and whoever it is who allocates the terminus slots at the London end. The application was proposing improvements to the bus and taxi interchange, with the dropping off and pickup points off the main A259 to make it easier to access the station itself.

I totally support a better train service, (however you define better), but that's not directly affected by this application.

TERMINAL POINTS
I may have missed something but if not, I have a question!

Will the rail terminal receive an upgrade in terms of frequency, quality, trains direct to London Bridge/Victoria, etc., so that there are proper travel options for those wanting to visit and pass through Newhaven?

If people can travel in and out, there will be more footfall than just local people shopping... Thereby more reason for retailers, (big or small), to move into Newhaven
