August 24 2012.
Friday afternoon and the rain has already started and looks set to stay for this extended Bank Holiday weekend. But rain or shine, there is plenty to do, to watch, to join in with and to enjoy. So get out there and get wet and support your local events and businesses!
Friday night is music night at the
Hampden Arms in South Heighton and
Tripod Dave, (pictured), will be rocking it from 9.00pm.
Saturday morning and it's
Zumba at the
Hillcrest Centre from 9.30am to 10.30am and then grab a bargain over at the
Newhaven High Street Market. Hang around and wander down to
Huggets Green on the West Quay and it's the best kept secret in town - the
Mayor's Charity Music Festival from 12.00 to 11.00pm. Bands include
Mood Indigo, The Officials, Reptilia, Bullett, The Firm, Random, Stash and The Railing Stains. There is a Children's funfair, food tents and a fully licensed bar.
Over in Seaford the Saturday fun starts at 10.00am with the
Family Fun Day and Dog Show at the
Martello Fields. Loads of stalls, security dogs display, mini quads, pony rides, and of course the dog show with 11 categories, kicking off at 10.30am with Fancy Dress and finishing at 3.40pm with Best in Show.
Seaford's Saturday night music scene appears to be restricted to the
Shore Bar with the
Resolved Band from 9.00pm
Running throughout Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the
Artwave Festival is at

Seaford Quality Street comes to
Seaford Promenade on Sunday between the West View Kiosk and the Salts Recreational Ground. Members of the Community Safety Partnership and colleagues will be bringing a Quality Street event to Seaford beach; an initiative which brings local agencies together for a day of action to deal with locally identified issues. During the event, local Seaford Lifeguards will be putting on displays to highlight the excellent work they do and to increase public safety on the beach through education, and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service will be giving information on fire safety, with emphasis on beach barbeques and safe disposal of equipment. There are restrictions in specified areas along Seaford beach which apply to dogs and the public can speak with local animal wardens to get advice about where and when there are restrictions and the penalties in place for these and other offences. The local environment agency will be attending for a beach clean-up during the day and Police and local Town Councillors will be available throughout the day to offer advice, answer questions and provide information.
Over at
Newhaven Fort there is a showing of
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - A 2.00pm matinee screening of Roald Dahl's 1971 classic. That's the Gene Wilder one.
Sunday night and it's your turn to give it some, with
Karaoke at the Bay Tree Inn in Seaford.
On to Bank Holiday Monday and it's the annual
NPS Lions Donkey Derby at the
Martello Fields in Seaford from 12.30pm to 5.00pm. Funfair, teas and cakes, beer tent, plate smash, traditional Punch & Judy show. Classic English Summertime family fun - In the rain... Well, let's hope not.
What a weekend! From Tripod Dave to the Donkey Derby. Is there some sort of connection there we wonder.....?
