CALL FOR OLD DOWNS LEISURE CENTRE SNAPS

August 7 2012.

Customers, members, ex-employees and local residents are being asked to dig deep in their photograph collections by the staff at the Downs Leisure Centre to see if they have any pictures of the facility over the last 25 years.

The sports centre was officially opened in September 1987, four years after the first halls were made available to the public.

The building was originally a Victorian boarding school for young ladies that closed in the 1960's. The building was then used as office space for the old Seaford Urban District Council and then inherited by Lewes District Council.

In 1983 the school rooms and dormitories were converted to flats and the school halls were made available for public use.

To celebrate 25 years since the sports facility was opened to the people of Seaford, the leisure centre is hoping to be able to present a pictorial timeline of the last 25 years for display within the centre.

If you have images or photographs you are able to share, either email info@waveleisure.co.uk or drop copies into reception at the Downs Leisure Centre.
