August 3 2012.
As usual, the weekend kicks off in energetic style this evening at the
Hillcrest Community Centre, Newhaven, where the
Ladies Boxing Club precedes the venue's regular Friday night
Ballroom Dancing evening. The entertainment moves on to
The Ark on Newhaven's West Quay, where the customers will be belting out all manner of
Karoke numbers from 8.30pm. The music plays on over in the town centre at the
White Hart, where six-piece modern covers band
Ginger Flowers will be playing from 9.00pm, while up at the
Hampden Arms,
Juliette and the Romeos hit the floor at 9.00pm with a mix of soul, R&B and more.
On to Saturday; and it's back to the
Hillcrest Centre from 9.30am to 10.30am for
Zumba, and then across to the market in Newhaven's town centre to pick up a bargain or two. Stay in Newhaven for the
Mencap Summer Fair, with fun for all the family from 10.00am to 3.00pm at the
Riverside Hall. The modest entry fee of just 30p for adults, with children free of charge all goes to help support the charity. Sticking with the family fun theme; there's a free-to-enter
Family Summer Play Event over the other side of the ring road at
Newhaven Children's Centre, Denton Island from 10am - 12pm. Also raising money for charity and flying the family-fun flag, the
Hope Inn is hosting a
Help for Heroes Day, with plenty going on from 12.00pm and
Ten Below Zero performing from 9.00pm in the evening. Up the hill at
Southdown School, Church Hill,
Newhaven Gardening Society is holding its Annual Show from 2.00pm. For those interested in a spot of history, there's a
Seaford Historic Guided Tour starting from the
Seaford Tourist Information Centre at 10.00am.
Heading into the evening and in Seaford at the
British Legion Club,
Ginger Flowers are making another appearance and back in Newhaven at the
Bridge Inn, our good friends, local covers band,
Welcome to Nutsville (pictured) hitting it from 9.00pm.
Sunday gets underway with a
Market & Fund Day at
Martello Tower on Seaford seafront from 11.00am to 4.30pm and there'll be nine gardens open for the
Macmillan Open Garden Coastal Trail from
Saltdean to Seaford; 12:00pm - 6:00pm. There's another chance to go back in time with the one-hour
Seaford Cemetery Historic Guided Tours, 2:00pm at Seaford Cemetery, Alfriston Road, Seaford. For those who prefer to end the weekend on a loud note, the
Bay Tree Inn in Seaford is holding a
Karaoke night.
With so much choice and good-cause events going on, let's hope the weather behaves itself for the good folk of the Haven. Enjoy!
