SEAFORD BACK TO THE DARK AGES - Update

July 29 2012.

Reply from Ian Mitchell:

I heard they had plans to do this in Newhaven but then I noted rather a lot of new street lights being fitted in Seaford then an engineer doing the ones in my road.
They all now go off at about 01:00 and if it was darker at 05:30 ish they would come back on.
I never heard anything about the consultation and would also like to know how much money they have had to spend and when they expect to see a saving.

By the amount of feedback, under 40 I guess not many of us knew about these changes and will also be reporting failed streetlights.

Letter from Geoff King:

A few days ago I noticed that the street light opposite my house was no longer working. Thinking this to be a fault I reported it to ESCC Highways.

A day or two later I noticed that the street light opposite my house was actually working in the evening but that it 'went out' at about 1.30am. I then realised that about half the street lights in my street and the neighbouring streets appeared to also be 'out'.

Suddenly the penny dropped and I remembered that there had been a report in the local media some time back that ESCC was considering a 'reduced street lighting scheme' for Seaford.

So am I the only one to have noticed that we no longer appear to have all the street lights on all night??

If this is a 'reduced street lighting scheme' then ESCC have introduced it by stealth without any consultation with the local residents affected by such a scheme.

Also, if this is a 'reduced street lighting scheme' then ESCC have created many very dark residential streets that are now a hazard to road safety and a huge opportunity for petty criminals.

If this is a 'reduced street lighting scheme' introduced by ESCC then maybe the residents affected should bring in a 'reduced council tax payment scheme' as 'fair's fair', we are no longer getting the amenities and services that we are paying for.
