NEWHAVEN MAN SENTENCED FOR DRUGS OFFENCE

July 26 2012.

David Crossley, 20, of Meeching Road, Newhaven, was arrested on 9 February following execution of a drugs warrant at his address by local police officers.

Half a kilo of cocaine with an estimated minimum street value of £10,000 was found his bedroom. He was charged on the same day with possession of cocaine with intent to supply it, and was remanded in custody up to trial.

On Friday 20 July at Lewes Crown Court, having pleaded not guilty, he was convicted and sentenced to 2 years 6 months imprisonment.

He now faces a confiscation hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act at the same court on 31 August after expert police financial investigators have compiled a report on his financial status.

Detective Constable John Steven of East Sussex CID said: "This is another example of our determination to disrupt drug dealing in local communities, and we will also seek to strip offenders of their profits if at all possible so that they can be put back into legitimate society."
