Lewes District Council is proposing to move its Newhaven offices from its current location in Fort Road to a new, purpose built location that will also house a new Fire Station, sharing costs with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. The proposal is to buy a share of the site recently purchased by East Sussex County Council at 36-38 High Street, (McKays former premises). 

It appears that the Library will be on the ground floor, and presumably, the Fire Station will take up an area of the ground floor to the rear. LDC will use upper floors for offices and the site will include parking facilities for staff.

The plan is for LDC offices and Fire Station in Fort Road to be sold.
