TWO ARRESTED AFTER STOLEN VAN CRASHES IN NEWHAVEN

Two men have been arrested by police after a stolen van crashed into a car at Denton this morning. 

Two women from Worthing, driving a a Peugeot 308, were involved in the collision just after 9.30am. One wasn't injured, but the other suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital for observation.

It was at 8.20am when police, following information, became aware of a van, which had been stolen from a van hire company in Newhaven over the weekend.

Police located and began to follow the van, which stopped three minutes later after it collided with the Peugeot 308 in Wellington Road, Denton. The occupants made off on foot and, following a search of the area by road policing and local officers, and the police helicopter, two men, local and in their 20s, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of the vehicle. It was then that police realised that the van had been in collision with a car.

Detective Inspector Richard Bates said; "Anyone who saw the crash is asked to contact us via 101 quoting serial 0231 of 25/6."
