ROTARY CLUB OF SEAFORD AND SEAFORD HEAD COMMUNITY COLLEGE HELP CHILDREN OF CHERNOBYL

June 19 2012.

On Thursday 14th of June, Seaford Head Community College welcomed back children from the Children of Chernobyl organisation based in Horsted Keynes. This contact was initiated by John Owen of the Rotary Club of Seaford in his Presidential Year, when we entertained them and introduced them to the College.

John, Mike Hemmings and President Isla Sitwell went to see what they were doing, and  found the visitors were younger than last year's, had only come to England a few days before and, until then, most were strangers to each other.

Nevertheless, as last year, it wasn't long before they and their English counterparts were joining together in the various activities arranged for them. These ranged from the Climbing Wall in the Sports Hall to making "Olympic Medals" in technology, scones in the food technology area and an experiment in the science laboratory resulting in ice cream making. The children certainly enjoyed themselves, especially in the activities involving food!

The organisers agreed that this was a very worthwhile contact and plan to see it being continued like this.

The children were accompanied by two translators and the Chairman of the Children of Chernobyl Committee, Andrew Storey.
