STORM BREWING FOLLOWING NEWHAVEN PLANNING APPLICATION

A storm is brewing after Lewes District Council today posted a notice on The Argus website proposing the disposal of the Newhaven Recreational Ground, Playing Fields and open space amounting to nearly nine hectares for the developement of a hotel and 'sevices'.

This is the first that many people, including Newhaven councillors, have heard about this plan, which appears to have been 'slipped in' in without any open discussion or consultation.
 
The notice reads:

LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT 1972 SECTION 123(1), (2A)
Notice is given that Lewes District Council intends to dispose of
land having an area of approximately 8.93 hectares and which
forms part of an open space at the Recreation Ground, Playing
Fields and Informal Open Space, Lewes Road, Newhaven,
East Sussex. The proposed disposal is the sale of the freehold
of the land for the following main use:

Development as hotel with ancillary grounds and services.
Objections to and representations in respect of the intended
disposal must be made in writing and addressed to:

by no later than 12 noon on Wednesday 20th June 2012.
