HAVEN NEWS JUBILEE WEEKEND PREVIEW

Not just another weekend - An extended double ROYAL weekend! And, as ever, there is more than enough to do here in the Haven area. So get out there and support your local events and companies. You don't need to leave the Haven area to have a great time....

As ever, Friday night is music night and it all kicks off at The Cinque Ports in Seaford with popular local covers duo Chas and Das, (pictured right),certain to have another fun gig and get them dancing in the CInque from around 8.30pm.

Still in Seaford and The Gangesters are playing at The White Lion, covering numbers from Madness, Bad Manners, The Specials, The Selectors, The Beat and The Jam. So it that was your era then The Lion is where your den is tonight from around 9.00pm.

Over to South Heighton and Juliette and the Romeos are playing a mix of Party Classics Blues and Americana at The Hampden Arms from 9.00pm.

Down at The Ark in Newhaven this Royal weekend gets under way with a Karaoke King and Queen Fancy Dress night from 8.00pm. So... Are you a King or a Queen?

Saturday morning and once again it's your chance to take in the Zumba Fitness Class from 9:30 - 10:30am at the Hillcrest Centre in Newhaven and then wander over to the Newhaven Market in the High Street for a bargain or two. Don't bleat about the High Street if you don't back it!

This is the BIG weekend for Newhaven with The Fish Festival, including the Dieppe Market, Childrens Parade, Live Music, Childrens entertainment, Community Olympix and lots more. It's all taking place at Huggett's Green on the West Quay from 10.00am though to 4.00pm.

Over in Seaford there is a Seaford Historic Guided Tour at 10:30am. Meet at Seaford Tourist Information Centre, 37 Church Street, Seaford. Tours are at least one hour long. Tickets £5. Driftwood Garden at 4 Marine Drive, Bishopstone BN25 2RS is open from Saturday right round to Tuesday, especially for Jubilee Weekend. But you need to make an appointment. Driftwood Garden is recommended as a seaside garden to see by The Independent Magazine, featured in Sussex Society Magazine and listed on the NGS Yellow Book 2012, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Call Geoff on 01323 899296 and book your time, £5 per person inclusive of tea and cup cake served on vintage china in the garden.

Saturday night and the Newhaven Twinning Association has a Barn Dance at Huggetts Green on the West Quay at 7.00pm. There is a licenced bar and a Hog Roast and guests from Newhaven's twin town of La Chapelle Saint Mesmin will be there to practice your French on. Tickets £5.00 from Meeching Estates in the High Street.

The Royal theme continues with A Night of Kings and Queens at the Shore Bar with DJ Wayne from 9.00pm. Prizes for the best fancy dress, and if you didn't get slaughtered and fall in the river after The Ark's King and Queen Karaoke night, then you can get twice the use out of your outfit. Result!

Meanwhile, top live rock and covers band Full House are back playing live at The Bay Tree. If you haven't seen Full House, you really need to!

Great party covers band Markham & Lodge appeared on X-factor, but don't hold that against them, because they are too good for that. Judge for yourself at The Ark from 9.00pm.
 
Down at The Hope Inn, Ten Ton Badger promise to play dance your socks off music to suit the crowd and the Royal party continues with a Queens Tea party available to order between 2-5pm Sunday, Monday and tuesday.

On to Sunday and it is Newhaven Fort Day. Celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and meet a number of community groups from Newhaven who wants photos of any royal visits, memories or street parties. Muscial entertainment will be provided by Newhaven Youth Marching Band and Maestro Academy Players.

Over in Seaford there is a Seaford Cemetery Historic Guided Tour at 2:00pm. Seaford Cemetery, Alfriston Road, Seaford. Meet at the cemetary gates. Tours are at least 1 hour long. It's chill-out time at the Shore Bar on Sunday night with an acoustic chill out gig. Twilight perform a bit of Kings of Leon, Madonna, Amy Winehouse, Alanis Morissette, Coldplay, Jessie J, Beverly Knight, Christina Aguilera and more.

It gets a bit messier round the corner at The VBar with a Foam Party! - Open til 2.00am for those you can last, and raising money for Seaford Downs Syndrome and Special needs Support Group. Warning - You will get wet....

The weekend continues into Monday and the Bank Holiday Jubilee Live Music Festival at the Martello Fields in Seaford. It's all free, starting with a procession from the Salts at 11am. For full details CLICK HERE.

Up at the Hampden Arms there is a street party from noon til 4.00pm and then Buckler's Reel are playing live from 9.00pm

Down at The Ark there is a Jubilee Garden Party, BBQ and Live Music, with the Mule Kickers playing from 9.00pm

On to Tuesday and it's Quiz Night at the Shore Bar from 8.00pm. Cash Prize for the clever clogs.
