JUBILEE HISTORIC TOURS

May 30 2012.

On Jubilee Weekend, local historian Kevin Gordon will be providing historic guided tours of Seaford and Alfriston as well as a chance to join him for a tour of Seaford cemetery. The tours last over an hour and Kevin will be explaining some of the history of the area.

The tour of Seaford starts at 10.30am on Saturday 2nd June. Meet at the Tourist Information Office in Church Street. The tour of Alfriston starts at 2.00pm the same day, starting at the Market Cross. The tour of the Cemetery on the Alfriston Road starts at 2.00pm on Sunday 3rd June. Meet at the Cemetery Gates. Tickets are £5.00 and are available from the Seaford Tourist Information office, or on the day.

Kevin has been providing tours of Seaford and Alfriston for several years, but the cemetery walk is new. Kevin explains: "During the cemetery tour I explain the history of burials in Seaford and point out some of the people of note who are buried in the cemetery. Many people do not realise that Seaford Cemetery is also one of the largest Commonwealth War Cemeteries in the south and there are some fascinating stories to be told about the soldiers buried there."

Tickets and information about other historic walks, including tours of the Tide Mills are available from the Tourist Information Office on 01323 897426.
