HAVEN NEWS WEEKEND PREVIEW

May 4 2012.

The Hope on the West Quay at Newhaven is another local pub with recent management changes for the better. Drop in and give it a try this weekend.

Not just another weekend - Another extended Bank Holiday Weekend! Yes, of course all those hard-working bankers deserve yet another holiday to spend their ever-growing, inflation-free bonus money. And how nice that the rest of us are given the time off to watch them spend it. Still, there are plenty of better things to do this weekend, so get out there and support your local Haven events...

Friday night and its Pirates and Fairies Karaoke Night at The Ark from 8.00pm. What better way could there possibly be to start the weekend than to dress up as either a Pirate or a Fairy and give the Karaoke machine a good thrashing. Of course REAL Pirates and Fairies will not even have to dress up for it. Can you tell the difference?

Karaoke is apparently a West Quay craze tonight, because The Hope is also putting up the screen and the mic tonight from around 8.30pm.

No Fairies or Pirates up the Hampden Arms as far as we know, but top blues and rock band Railroad will be raising the roof from around the 9.00pm mark. Meanwhile, back down in Newhaven High Street, DJ Sam Cadman will be playing the best sounds down at The Ship from 9.00pm

As ever, Seaford has its share of the music with Seaford Folk Club hosting a fun singers and musician's night at the Royal British Legion Club from 8.00pm and it's Dance Anthems Night at the Vbar from 9.00pm. If you prefer Blues, R&B and Rock classics, then get along to The Cinque Ports to hear Shakedown from 8-ish.

Saturday morning and your chance to take in the Zumba Fitness Class from 9:30 - 10:30am at the Hillcrest Centre in Newhaven and then wander over to the Newhaven Market in the High Street for a bargain or two. Have you been there lately? Do it!

There is a Fundraising Open House in support of Help for Heroes from 10am to 5pm at 25 Chyngton Way, Seaford, BN25 4JB. Phone 01323 872 400. E-mail: krissyofsussex@hotmail.co.uk There will be original hand-made cards and paintings, home made jams, marmalades, pickles and chutneys, gifts etc., plus tea, coffee and home made cakes. Don't just think about it being a nice idea - Get there and show you care.

The annual Bishopstone May Fair is at Bishopstone Village Green from 1.00pm through to 4.00pm, with traditional amusements and attractions for the whole family including barbeque and refreshments, cakes and produce, books, bric-a-brac, plants, tombola and raffle, all within this beautiful Downland Village. Ample parking on site.

There is a Big Plant Sale at St Peter's Church Hall in Seaford. Are they Big Plants or is it a Big Sale? We don't know, and unfortunately we don't know what time it starts either.

We do know that the Lunchtime Concert featuring violin and viola duo, Duo Figaro, at St Leonard's Church, Church Street, Seaford starts at 1.00pm.

Saturday evening and the Bank Holiday music scene continues with rock covers band Chinchilla Zilla at The Ark from 8:45pm and more rock from Juno at the Vbar from 9.00pm. Still more rock from The ROCKiTS at the Shore Bar from 9.00pm.

"What about Karaoke?" we hear you say. The Ship in Newhaven at 9.00pm we reply.

Sunday morning and our MP will be presenting his regular Sunday morning music show on Seahaven FM. As ever, our Norman will be playing an eclectic mix of country, jazz and blues, as well as some more modern material. He might also tell us why he thinks the Olympic torch route through Lewes is wrong and why the alternative route through Lewes and NOT Newhaven and Seaford is right. Seahaven FM is online at www.seahavenfm.com and on 96.3 FM.

In a repeat of yesterday, the Fundraising Open House in support of Help for Heroes again runs from 10am to 5pm at 25 Chyngton Way, Seaford, BN25 4JB. Phone 01323 872 400. E-mail: krissyofsussex@hotmail.co.uk Come on - you can make it one day.
