EASTSIDE DEVELOPERS THANK TOWN COUNCIL FOR ‘BIG PLANNING EVENT’

March 16 2012.

Release from the  Avalon/ASDA/Barratt  developers:

Avalon Newhaven LLP, ASDA and Barratt Homes took part in Newhaven Town Council's 'Big Planning Event' on 14
th March.

The event provided another opportunity for the Eastside developers to show their plans to the local community and a full team of ASDA, Barratt Homes and their professional advisers were on hand all day to discuss the proposals and answer questions.

A spokesperson for Avalon said: "We would like to thank the Town Council for organising such a worthwhile event. We had some fantastic feedback from the local community to our plans, just as we have previously. The message of 'get on with it' came through loud and clear. We now hope that Lewes District Council's planning committee hear our plans again in May and pass them".

Rob Philips, Planning Manager at Barratt Homes said: "Our plans have been with the Council for a long time now and we want to get on with the job of delivering jobs and regeneration in Newhaven. There are significant differences between the proposals shown at the Big Planning Event, not least in their prospects of ever being delivered. Together - Avalon, ASDA and Barratt Homes - own the land, have the funds in place and the agreement for our roads plans. We are the only project that is ready to go."

Chris Martin, Senior Property Communications Manager, ASDA said: "Over the course of two sets of public exhibitions, three years hard work as well as this week's session, we have heard support for the choice and competition that an
ASDA would bring, how valuable the Barratt houses would be and the economic seachange that the new Port Access Road would kick-start. If the Council give us the go-ahead then we can start building straight away. We,
and the local community, now want them to say 'yes'.

"If we get the go-ahead for the plans in May then we can start recruiting for construction jobs in June - we can get going straight away.'
