HAVEN NEWS WEEKEND PREVIEW

March 9 2012

It's a busy weekend ahead for you lucky Haveners, with a fine mixture of sport, theatre, music and much more to keep you amused and entertained, including top local band The Riffz at The Ark on Saturday night.

Yes the weekend is almost here once again and  it kicks off tonight with the ultimate Haven football face-off, as Seaford Town Reserves take on Newhaven Town Reserves at The Crouch from 7.30pm. Although Seaford will have the home ground advantage, it's anyone's game, so get those thermals on and get along and cheer your home side.

Also from 7.30pm you can stay in the warm and catch Seaford Musical Juniors as they continue the successful run of their latest production, Carry On Up The Beanstalk at The Barn Theatre, Saxon Lane, Seaford . This time the Juniors are showcasing their acting as part of the Mayor's Mad March Marathon, a series of events taking place throughout March in aid of Seaford charity, WAVES. They'll also be performing for the last time on Saturday at 2.30pm.

It wouldn't be Friday night without something on offer from the Seaford Folk Club and this week Lynne Heraud and Pat Turner, "Two of the most established and experienced singers on the folk scene", take to the upstairs stage at Seaford British Legion from 8pm.

As ever, Friday night is music night up at the Hampden Arms in South Heighton, where rock band Jelly Head are back by popular demand. They start rocking at around 8.30pm.

Now brace yourselves; Saturday's a packed one...

Unwind after a stressful week with the Wellness Works Acupuncture Unravelled and Pampering Day at 28 Church Street from 10am. Just saying it will get your jaw muscles fit! Go along and treat yourself, or why not make it an early Mother's Day present?

Also from 10am in Seaford, drop into the Coffee Morning at St Leonard's Church Hall, or take a wander round the Fairtrade Market at the Clinton Centre. Entry is only 50p and includes sampling a selection of fair-trade cakes and chocolates in the 'Tasting Cafe'.

Over in Newhaven, there's a Table Top Sale at The Breakout Centre from 10.30am, and just along the road at Denton Church Hall, Geoffrey Ellis will be giving a talk on "The Secret Tunnels of South Heighton" from 2.30pm, in aid of the Link Romania Moldova Cycle Challenge.

Back in Seaford, with both Seaford and Newhaven football teams playing away, why not head over to the Seaford Rugby Club Match at The Salts from 2.15pm for your local sport fix.

Start your Saturday evening off by checking out Seaford's finest musical talent at the Seaford Musician of the Year Awards at Newlands School from 7pm. Then it's over to the Constitutional Club for skiffle band Bad Bad Whiskey from 8pm, or dig out your dobbers and head to the Seaford British Legion for their bingo night. Eyes down at 8.30pm.

The Ark is doing Newhaven proud once again, with the welcome return of one of our favourite local bands, The Riffz, playing from 8.30pm. Not to be missed!

As if all of that wasn't enough excitement, Sunday morning brings with it... another Table Top Sale! Get over to Downs Leisure Centre in Seaford from 10am to flog your unwanted items, or buy someone else's!

Then, after your Sunday stroll you can head up to the Hampden Arms in South Heighton to watch the England v France six nations match at 3pm.

Have a good one!
