£18 MILLION COASTAL COMMUNITIES FUND LAUNCHED

March 7 2012.

Newhaven Port has informed Haven News that the Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG) has launched a new funding opportunity for Coastal Communities. The Crown Estate is recycling 50% of its annual revenues from marine related activities, (such as granting of leases for offshore wind development), into the programme. For 2012, for England, that amounts to £18.2 million.

Grants will range from £50,000 to £2 million, and applications opened on 5th March. Any organisation wishing to apply has to submit an indication of interest by 31st March, and a full application, (if invited), by May 2012.

All projects will be required to demonstrate better use of assets, (physical, natural, cultural, social and economic), to promote sustainable economic growth and jobs and can be for capital investment or operating costs.

Typical projects might include:

- Skills training

- Tourist infrastructure and green tourism

- Managing flood and coastal erosion and pollution

- Supporting social enterprises

- School leaver apprenticeships

- Workplaces for SME's

- Small scale, sustainable transport solutions

- Community capacity building

Bidding organizations can include charities, voluntary organisations, social enterprises and community interest companies, local schools and colleges, local authorities and local businesses.

So, come on Newhaven, let's start drawing up a list of possible proposals. Bids can be for a single proposal or a number of proposals for a single community.

Please send all ideas to Haven News and we will help to get partners together to put in an application.
