HAVEN NEWS WEEKEND PREVIEW

March 2 2012

First things first, a good old Haven News BRIDGE ALERT. It'll be swinging open at 4.30 this afternoon, causing the usual traffic delays in the area. Also, don't forget that the bridge is scheduled to be CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC between 8pm on Monday 5th and 5.30am on Tuesday 6th March, so plan any late night journeys accordingly.

Right, now on with the good stuff...

As usual, you're spoilt for choice in the Haven this Friday, but why not start your weekend with the Quiz Night at Newhaven Football Club from 7.30pm. At £10 per team of four, you can't go wrong!

As for your live music round-up, Seaford Folk club kicks things off as North Sea Gas, 'one of Scotland's most popular folk bands' makes a trip down south to Seaford British Legion from 8pm.

Newhaven's finest, The Fabulous Baker Boys, promise to 'rock ya sox off' with their mix of rock, pop and blues covers at The Hampden Arms in South Heighton from 8.30pm, whilst down at the end of West Quay, high energy Rock 'n' Roll band Stash play live at The Hope Inn from 9pm.

If you fancy taking to the stage yourself, get down to The Ark in Newhaven for Karaoke from 8.30pm.

Take the opportunity on Saturday morning to get some help and advice on the Digital Switchover. Apparently it's finally coming to our area, so get down to Broad Street in Seaford between 9am and 5pm to see if the team can help you out.

Also on Saturday morning, don't get confused between your two local St Leonard's Church Halls - get over to St Leonard's in Denton for a Jumble Sale in aid of the Link Romania Moldova Cycle Challenge, or St Leonard's in Seaford for their Grand March Hare Bazaar. Both events run between 10am and 12pm.

Back in Seaford, catch Fiona Hosford's Lunchtime Harp Recital at St Leonard's Church from 1pm, and then head over to support the lads of Seaford Town FC first team as they take on Mile Oak at The Crouch. Kick-off at 3pm.

Heading into the evening, start your crazy Saturday night with... an illustrated talk! If it's local history that floats your boat though, it might be worth a look in - the talk is on 'Old Denton and South Heighton' and is at South Heighton Village Hall from 7pm.

Whether you triumphed on Friday night or just fancy putting your knowledge to the test again, fast track to the Seahaven Lioness Club Charity Quiz Night at St Thomas More Church in Seaford for your second chance at quiz glory. Get there at 7.15pm for the 7.30pm start, it's part of the Mayor's Mad March Marathon in aid of WAVES.

Of course, there's more live music tonight, with four piece rock covers band Raw Deal playing at Seaford British Legion from 8pm, and blues band Howlin Blues at The Ark in Newhaven from 9pm.

This weekend there's also a great excuse to get out and about on Sunday, as The Hampden Arms holds a Race Night...in the afternoon. Get up there from 3.30pm for fun for all the family, in aid of the Dreams Come True charity for terminally sick children.

Have a good one!
