March 1 2012.

Newhaven Fort re-opens to the public today for the 2012 season.

For the 13th year running, the award-winning Newhaven Fort has received a glowing assessment from the annual Visitor Attractions Quality Assurance Scheme (VAQAS), endorsed by Enjoy England, allowing the attraction to maintain its quality accreditation.

Open from 10:30am-6pm daily, Newhaven Fort offers visitors the chance to enjoy interactive wartime displays and exhibits, fascinating architecture and breathtaking clifftop views of the Sussex coastline.

Throughout 2012 Newhaven Fort will host an extensive programme of popular events, from open-air theatre and live music to military re-enactments and children's activities, during the school holidays.

To celebrate English Tourism Week, Newhaven Fort is running a number of special events from 10th-18th March. On Saturday 10th, in recognition of International Women's Day, Newhaven Fort will present a set of short talks relating to the lives of women in Britain and abroad throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. Spaces are limited and must be booked in advance. The talks include:

- The Cantinieres of the French Army

- An Edwardian Wife

- The Suffragettes

- The Russian Women's Death Battalion of 1917

Is there something about Newhaven Fort that you've always wanted to know but never asked? Then why not join one of the guided tours on 10th, 11th, 17th and 18th March. To round off the week, on Sunday 18th March, celebrate Mother's Day in style with a visit to the Fort and indulge in the special cream tea offer.
