Seaford Bonfire Society held its AGM last week at Seaford Head Golf Club, proudly displaying just how far it has progressed during its first year.

The bonfire society was rekindled last year with the ambitious objective of holding a large public bonfire parade and fireworks display. Not only was this achieved in October of last year, but the event is thought to have been the largest held in Seaford since the Queen's Silver Jubilee Celebrations in 1977.

At the AGM, Chairman Steve Russell thanked the members of the society for their support and help in making Seaford Bonfire Society so successful. Money was raised during the event for local charities and two cheques for £500 were presented to the Seaford Downs Syndrome Support Group and the Seaford Lifeguards.

The Chairman also revealed that the this year's event would take place on Saturday 20th October, and assured members that every effort would be made to make these celebrations even better than the last.

Although most of the posts on the Bonfire Committee have been filled, there are still one or two vacancies. If you would like to volunteer or join the society, call the Membership Secretary, Kevin Start, on 07801 840201.
