Yesterday, Monday 27th February at 13.07, coastguards launched Newhaven Lifeboat after a woman's body was spotted on the beach below cliffs just to the west of Belle Tout.

The lifeboat quickly arrived on scene and recovered the deceased person, who was taken to Birling Gap where Police, Coastguards and the Coroner were waiting.

The lifeboat then returned to Newhaven where it was ready for service at 15:00.
