NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT IN ACTION

February 20 2012.

Volunteers from Newhaven's RNLI lifeboat station were tasked at 16:20 on Wednesday 15th February to a small speedboat with two adults and one child on board which had suffered engine failure approximately one mile south of Seaford Head

The casualty had no VHF radio and low battery life on their mobile phone.

Once on scene all three persons were transferred to the lifeboat and assessed for any signs of exposure, all were found to be ok.

The Newhaven Severn class Lifeboat David and Elizabeth Acland established a tow and the casualty vessel was safely bought into Newhaven harbour and berthed in the marina.

A lifeboat spokesman explained that it is recommended that a VHF radio is carried on board all vessels as mobile phone signals can be unreliable at sea.
