A power station explosion caused widespread power cuts to the East Side of Newhaven last night.

Extending from the port and over to Denton Corner, the power loss affected houses, shops and local businesses, and the Transmanche ferry was redirected to Portsmouth.

Whilst normal service has been returned to most properties, it is understood that the port of Newhaven is still without power and generators are being brought into use.
