COMMUNITY SUPPORT IN NEWHAVEN TODAY

January 31 2012

Lewes Neighbourhood Policing Team will be holding a Quality Street Event in Newhaven Town centre today from midday until 2pm.

The initiative will bring together local police, fire service, council and public health representatives, with the aim of addressing issues of local importance, particularly in and around the town centre.

Lizzie Sword-Daniels, local community engagement officer for Lewes, said:

"During this event, officers will be conducting high visibility patrols as part of designated actions to tackle local priorities. Licensing officers will be visiting various locations and speaking with the necessary people about issues surrounding shoplifting offences. Neighbourhood Police Officers will also be available in the town centre to answer any questions that you may have.

"The local council representative will be visiting the taxi rank to remind drivers of the pedestrian precinct rules. There will be extra street sweeping patrols in the town and efforts will be made to cleanse the car park stairwells. Public health officers will be in the town to assess areas where action is required to address issues of waste accumulation. The local council animal warden will be patrolling the area to identify any issues surrounding dog fouling and will be happy to speak with residents with any concerns.

"We will be in company with representatives from East Sussex Fire and Rescue service who will be booking home safety visits and free smoke alarm checks for anyone who would like one."

If you have any questions or queries before the event, you can contact Police on the non Emergency number 101 to speak to your local community support officer.
