The news is breaking that clothing store Peacocks is to be put under administration, putting a total of 9600 jobs at risk.

It is too early to know what the future holds for the Peacocks branch in Newhaven, but the administrators are reported to have stated than none of the company's 611 stores would close.

That may well be a positive sounding statement, but any buyer of the company will certainly have to look at making savings and a cutback in the number of stores is an obvious early move.

The loss of Peacocks would certainly be another blow to Newhaven town centre.
