4.15pm: Newhaven ring road is almost at a standstill due to an accident at the pedestrian crossing, immediately prior to the Bridge Street turning and after the swing bridge.

The inside lane of the one-way system is blocked by a paramedic ambulance and police cars.

Traffic is starting to back up to the top of the one-way system and over the bridge.
