HAVEN NEWS WEEKEND PREVIEW

January 6 2012

Pictured: Head over to The Ark in Newhaven this weekend for karaoke on Friday night and local band Tasteless on Saturday.

It may be back to work and back to normality after the excesses of the festive period, but Newhaven and Seaford have just the antidote to those January blues, with live music, entertainment, and a bit of sport thrown in for good measure. So why not get out there and support your local events.

Get the first Friday night of the year off to a great start and blow away the cobwebs at Seaford Folk Club's Singers and Musicians Night from 8pm, whilst up at The Hampden Arms in South Heighton, Ice Cream Bikinis take to the stage with some post-punk 80s classics from 8.30pm. It seems Newhaven just can't get enough of this era either, as down on West Quay The Ark plays host to an evening of karaoke and 80s themed fancy dress from 9pm.

Kick start that New Year's resolution on Saturday morning by joining in with the latest fitness craze - Zumba! The class starts at 9.30am at the Hillcrest Community Centre in Newhaven and is definitely worth a try. If you're more of a spectator, why not support one of your local football teams on Saturday afternoon; at Fort Road its Newhaven reserves vs Uckfield reserves, and over at The Crouch, Seaford Town take on Wick in their division two match. Both games kick off at 3pm.

Put your knowledge of 2011 to the test on Saturday evening with the 'That Was The Year' Quiz Night at Seaford Constitutional Club from 8pm. Seaford Royal British Legion opens its doors for a Juke Box Night from 8.45pm, and then it's back over to The Ark in Newhaven where local band Tasteless play live from 9pm.

Happy New Year!
