Following on from yesterday's story on the various supermarket plans for Newhaven, Mr Grumpy writes...

For Lewes DC to say that Newhaven is already served by three supermarkets misses the point entirely.
The only existing supermarket with proper facilities including a Petrol Station is Sainsbury's, and they have had the monopoly for far to long. You only have to look at the blatant profiteering that Sainsbury's operates every weekend by putting at least 1p on a litre of petrol every Friday and reducing it again on Monday. The food and other items in the store are also always several pence dearer than many of the competitors as well.
So come on Lewes DC, lets see some real improvement, growth and prosperity in Newhaven. Lets not prevaricate and put off any decision until well into 2012.
Lets give Newhaven a shot in the arm NOW.
