SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY TRANSPORT

December 21 2011

Although most people will be familiar with popular forms of public transport, many will not be aware of the locally provided transport services covering a number of local towns, including Newhaven, Peacehaven and Seaford.

Community Transport for the Lewes Area (CTLA) is a non-profit-making charity, which provides a bus service to those who are unable to access normal public transport. Running from Monday to Friday, between 8.30am and 3.00pm, the fleet of minibuses make otherwise difficult or expensive journeys possible for most residents of all age groups.

For a small fee, this door-to-door transport service will take you from your home to your required destination, be this to the shops, a doctor's appointment, or simply to visit a friend or relative. In addition to these week day services, CTLA's popular Travel Club provides opportunities for day trips to various places of interest, shows, restaurants and special events, as well as regular trips to shopping centres and supermarkets.

This invaluable service has already provided much needed support for many people:

"We recently provided transport for a lady who was paying £75.00 per week to visit her husband in a nursing home. We got this down to £3.00 a day, which enabled her to do normal things like eat properly,"
explained Karen Collins-Williams, of CTLA.

CTLA runs a number of services throughout the Lewes area, with fares depending on your local service. Most vehicles have wheelchair access, and all are easily accessible for those with mobility problems. Some services are even available free of charge with a National Concessionary Bus Pass.

Using and booking this service is easy. You'll need to complete a free membership application form, then simply call the Newhaven based office between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday to make a booking request, trying to give at least one days notice.

Some of CTLA's services are supported by East Sussex County Council and the Town Councils of Peacehaven, Telscombe, Newhaven and Seaford, without whom the services would not be able to run. Ultimately, the charity rely on local residents to continue using their services to gain funding so please "use them or loose them" and take advantage of this great service within your local community.
