Alfie Jones and a Change of Fortune
is the first book written by Newhaven author David Fuller. Aimed at football crazy kids aged between eight and 12, the story centres around Alfie Jones and how a meeting with the mysterious fortune teller Madam Zola leaves him with news that could change his life!

This book - the first in a planned series -is the perfect story for any football mad youngster, boy or girl, who yearns for football success, not just winning the FA cup but progressing within his/her junior team. Parents will also identify with Alfie's hopes and dreams.

An FA qualified football coach, and self-confessed "football nut", David studied Creative Writing and Publishing Studies at Middlesex University and has over eight years experience as a full-time journalist .

He was moved to turn his hand to writing a book when he was made redundant two years ago. "I needed to do something to fill the many hours of spare time in-between applying for jobs," explains David. "I get restless when I'm not occupied and just felt I should do something constructive with all the free time I suddenly had. My passions are writing and football - I coach young kids on a Saturday morning - so a combination of these loves seemed like a natural progression, hence Alfie Jones."

However, not only did David write the book, he also decided to print, publish and design the book himself, purely because, "most publishers will only accept manuscripts from agents and I didn't want to lose any potential profits from my hard work to a third party."

He and his wife, Rebecca have now started their own company - RDF Publishing - from which they hope to print any subsequent books in the Alfie Jones series.

There are many ways to obtain a copy of the book. You can find it at online retailers including eBay, Waterstones, WH Smiths etc (ISBN 978-0-957033900), or order direct from the publishers by emailing: The book is also on sale at Dees in Newhaven. RRP is £5 (+£1.50 postage and packaging). David will also have a stall at this Saturday's Christmas Fair in Newhaven, where he will be selling and signing copies of the book.
