SEAFORD BONFIRE SOCIETY IGNITES LEWES CELEBRATIONS

November 7 2011

Nearly 60 members of the recently formed Seaford Bonfire Society attended Lewes on Saturday, 5th November to take part in the biggest bonfire celebrations in the country. The Seaford 'Boyes and Belles' came together to march with Southover Bonfire Society under the banner of the "Seaford Shags".

The three divisions of the society, Smugglers, Saxons, and Pirates, all received a warm welcome from other bonfire societies and the thousands of people who lined the streets to watch the spectacle.

The only shadow cast on the evening was the injury of one of the members who was hurt by a firework. She was taken to hospital in Brighton where she stayed overnight.

Tina Start of Seaford Bonfire Society said, "One of our members was carrying the banner of the society when debris from a firework caught her in the eye. She quickly received medical attention and was taken to hospital. It is such a shame because apart from this it was a fantastic evening. Needless to say, we all wish her a speedy recovery."

Seaford Bonfire Society will be marching at South Heighton Bonfire Society's celebrations next Saturday, 12th November.
