There was a record turnout on Thursday 3rd November for the Young Mayor elections with 404 votes cast by students at Tideway School. The vote was extremely close and was won by 14 year old Charlotte Crookston, a year 10 student. Charlotte narrowly defeated election rivals Danielle Cornford and Rheannon Hewson to become Newhaven's third Young Mayor.

One of Charlotte's aims as Young Mayor is to improve services for teenagers who are experiencing problems and difficulties by giving them somewhere to turn for advice and help.

Charlotte's first engagement as Young Mayor will be to lay a wreath for the Town Council on Remembrance Sunday together with the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor. She will also attend the Twinning Charter signing ceremony afterwards.
