PLANS FOR INVESTMENT IN NEWHAVEN REMAIN ON TRACK

September 30 2011

Avalon Newhaven LLP together with project partners ASDA and Barratt Homes have sent a direct update to every household in Newhaven, informing the local community that plans for investment remain on track.

Plans to regenerate the Eastside site in Newhaven will be put forward to Lewes District Council Planning Applications Committee at the end of October. If successful, the proposed ASDA store could be up and running in as little as 18 months.

A leaflet, sent out earlier in the summer, reminded the local community of what the proposed scheme would deliver, including an ASDA store with petrol station, up to 190 new homes, 14 commercial units and 400 new jobs for local people. Planners are also promising a significant investment in Newhaven's infrastructure, including delivering the first phase of the new port access road.

The leaflet also lets people know how they can engage in the planning process and get in contact with Lewes District Council about the plans.

A spokesperson for Avalon Newhaven, said:

"The local community have shown us a fantastic level of support all the way through the development of our proposals and we would like to thank them for their input and patience throughout. Our extensive consultation process has allowed us to submit the right plans for this site and for Newhaven more widely. By sending this leaflet out around the town we are continuing our efforts to engage with the local community.

"We hope that the Council will consider our proposals as soon as possible so that we can deliver this much needed investment in Newhaven."

Rob Philips, Planning Manager at Barratt Homes, said:

"We very much hope that the Council will approve these plans as they offer an excellent opportunity for valuable investment and improvements to be made - improvements that will make a real difference to the local community."
