According to the latest North Quay Recovery Facility (ERF) Bulletin entitled 'Keeping Everyone Informed', the Incinerator site is now operational and manned 24-hours a day, every day.
The facility is expected to become fully operational and handed over to Veolia Environmental Services in November 2011, and local residents and groups will have the opportunity to visit the site in 2012.
Recent activity has focused around preparing the turbine for full operation to allow the ERF to generate electricity and this involved performance tests which continued into last weekend. By way of pre-warning, Issue 12 of the Bulletin was distributed to those addresses in South Heighton closest to the site on Friday 9th September 2011, as well as being posted on the ERF web site.
The Bulletin goes on to say that the turbine uses the steam produced by the ERF to drive a generator which in turn produces electricity. This electricity will then be exported to the National Grid and generate enough electricity for approximately 25,000 homes.
Construction working hours are Monday - Friday 7am to 7pm, and Saturday 7am to 1pm.
Scheduled ERF commissioning events for September, October and November are detailed on the Bulletin. CLICK HERE
