Seaford Dog Rescue held its inaugural Family Fun Day and Dog Show fundraising event at Martello Fields yesterday, Saturday 27th August 2011.

Fortunately for the organisers and their band of enthusiastic volunteer helpers, the rain showers held off and crowds with four-legged friends of all sizes, breeds and age, flocked to the venue.

There was plenty going to keep family and friends entertained with bouncy castle, coconut shy, canine obstacle course, ice creams and side stalls selling doggie bling, but the main attraction was the Dog Show arena. Owners proudly lined up to show off their pets, with some of the classes such as Prettiest Bitch and Handsomest Dog attracting well over 50 entrants. The classes included:

Prettiest bitch
Handsomest dog
Waggiest tail
Dog most like its owner
Dog the judges would most like to take home
Best rescue
Best puppy
Best veteran
Junior handler
Fancy Dress

The finale was Best in Show, in which all first and second-placed winners lined up to be judged by popular author Peter James.

Feedback on the day was that of a good fun day out, with an impressive number of well behaved dogs, and owners .... One of the judges, local vet Karen Scott said; "With such a terrific turn out and so many brilliant dogs involved, that was one of the hardest jobs I've ever had to do!"
