In commemoration of the Battle of Britain, Newhaven Fort will be hosting a day of nostalgia and remembrance on Sunday 11th September.

The annual Battle of Britain Commemoration Day will start at 10:30am with a special programme of events and activities throughout the day. The event will be officially opened by Councillor Eileen Russell, Chair of Lewes District Council, at 10:55am.

Visitors can take a step back in time when the entertainment begins at 11am with performances from the Seaford Silver Band, playing classic war time tunes, followed by a special performance from Haven Harmonies, the local Newhaven community choir.

The Brighton Boogie dancers and DJ will also be in attendance during the afternoon, performing energetic Swing and Jive dance routines to 1940s musical favourites, audience participation welcomed. Newhaven Fort will also host the annual Women's Land Army reunion where guests will be travelling from all over the south to reunite and meet with old friends and colleagues.

An array of period military vehicles will be setting the scene on the Forts parade ground throughout the day and visitors are encouraged to make their way up to the ramparts to get the best views of the Battle of Britain memorial flight as a World War II Spitfire performs a spectacular flypast. *

The Fort's fascinating displays and under 12s adventure playground will also be open for visitors to enjoy. The Searchlight Café will be serving delicious lunches and treats as well as organic and Fair-trade refreshments.
