GREEN FLAG AWARD FOR CASTLE HILL NATURE RESERVE

August 23 2011

Castle Hill Nature Reserve has been honoured with a Green Flag award for the second year running.

The nature reserve gained the award for its excellent facilities and community involvement, as well as being welcoming, safe, clean and well maintained.

Lead councillor for health and environment Andy Smith said: "We are delighted with this award. It provides independent evidence of the high priority we give to our open green areas, which bring significant benefits to local communities as well as encouraging biodiversity.

"We are particularly proud of the community involvement with the Castle Hill nature reserve and this award recognises this."

Secretary of the Castle Hill Nature Reserve Jill Allen said: "The group works very hard to maintain the reserve.
"The Green Flag, along with the Queen's Golden Jubilee Award for Voluntary Service received in 2008, recognise the volunteers' efforts and the importance of maintaining open green spaces in Newhaven."

All award winning sites now have the chance to receive a further award from the Green Flag Plus Partnership, the People's Choice Award.

This award is voted for by the public, so if you want to see Castle Hill receive such a national accolade, then CLICK HERE to visit the Green Flag Award website and register your vote.
