NEW RECYCLING SITE OPEN

July 15

Newhaven's new household waste recycling site opened yesterday at the former Haven Foundry in New Road.

Replacing the old Lewes Road facility, the new split level site can accommodate containers in such a way that users no longer have to climb steps on foot to put their waste into the containers, and there are more containers in operation than previously available.

A dedicated lorry area means the site doesn't have to close while full containers are replaced and, with a dedicated queuing lane in place, traffic will not have to wait on the road outside when the site is busy.

The site was funded by a specific government grant to improve waste and recycling infrastructure and will help East Sussex County Council achieve ITS target of half of all household waste being recycled by 2020.

A restoration scheme for the old site is being developed, with proposals to use it as part of the Waterside Park.
