WHY NEGLECT SEAFORD’S NEEDS? COUNCIL ASKED

Lewes District Council Conservatives release:

A council is ignoring the housing needs of those living in its largest town and some of its smallest villages, according to Conservatives.

When Lewes District Council’s ruling coalition Cabinet met this week (8th July) to discuss social housing needs, and how they can best be met, many parts of the area were completely ignored. That’s the claim made by Conservative councillor Liz Boorman, the Party’s Deputy Leader.

“We heard about the plans to generate much-needed social housing in several places within Lewes district”, says Cllr Boorman who represents Seaford West, “but I was appalled that the needs of those in Seaford, our largest town, and some of our villages, were completely neglected.”

Cllr Boorman pressed the ruling Alliance over the number of Seaford residents waiting “far too long” to be housed. “This council needs to adopt an holistic approach, thinking about the needs of the entire district, not just those areas where the Alliance might obtain votes.”

“The priorities are all wrong”, added Cllr Boorman. “The council should concentrate now on the towns and villages not already allocated social housing rather than prioritising those areas already provided for.”
